BBC News – Fearless toddler’s encounter with lion.
Wow. I would DEFINITELY still be nervous even with thick glass protecting my kid. The lion’s intentions are pretty clear. FOOD.
I do not choose to be a common man. It is my right to be uncommon-if I can. I seek opportunity not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.
I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia.
I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat.
It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations and to face the world boldly and say, “This I have done.”

Is it just me, or are Cuttlefish pretty amazing creatures? Seriously – they are really something interesting.
Last week Jessica and the kids saw a goldfinch in the back yard hanging around some thistles. Turns out the furry little seeds in those types of flowers are the favorite kinds of seeds for Goldfinches.
Seeing those beautiful birds was inspiring so we bought our first bird feeder. A finch sock. We’re hoping to see a flurry of activity around it during the next few months, but that might be slightly optimistic given that I believe the birds are passing through during migratory transition. Time will tell though, and I’ll be watching out the window to see what happens.
Surprise! I found a tomato plant growing next to our hydrangea bush on the back side of the house. It was an outlandish surprise. That side of the house gets only a few hours of sunshine and only during the later hours in the day. It is growing small clusters of tomatoes so I don’t know if they will end up as cherry tomatoes, plum tomatoes or just plain old tomatoes
I’m surprised and excited and it bubbles over into slightly disappointed. I mean, I watered and fed and babied the other tomato plants to get them to fruit and only was able to get an average yield. Here is a plant that I didn’t even know about and didn’t do anything to help it and it looks like it is going to survive and actually bear fruit. Amazing. I won’t be looking this gift horse in the mouth though – I’m looking forward to tasting these and comparing them to the ones we have.
Use Rooting Hormone to Grow New Hardwood Plants Video – About.com.
This video was really interesting. I plan on referencing my father-in-law because I know he has had alot of success with multiplying his plants using cuttings from his favorite trees and bushes. I’m excited to try.
This site is amazing. Just a SharePoint site with lots of articles and information about … everything. I was looking for information on planting blueberry bushes. Used the search, found it right away (here: https://utextension.tennessee.edu/publications/Documents/SP284-D.pdf)
I love how relevant it is to my growing area. Awesome.
At some level I love that my fingers are orange when I am half way through a single serving of Cheetos. Other times, like when I am with the kids or driving – not digging it as much.
Even the baked Cheetos leave some kind of persistent orange to your fingers. I would have thought that baking in the orange cheese would eliminate some of the residue – not true.
I saw a car driving down the road that had one tire replaced by the spare “donut”. There was another tire on the car that was clearly under-inflated and on any lengthy trip will certainly result in another flat tire leaving this person really in a tight spot. One donut – two flat tires.
Unfortunately, this person also had the word “bi**h” on a bumper sticker on her car. Hmm. How inspiring?!
What a shame that this person thinks that being a “b**ch” will help ward off all the bad things that happen to people. Guess what, bad things happen to everyone, it’s all about how we choose to react to it, that counts.
The Law | Move Over Tennessee.
I had no idea this was a new law. I wonder how regular citizens can keep up with the latest and greatest in new legislation, when they are very plugged into the world news, but not local news? In other words, how do people like myself who pay alot of attention to BBC, CNN and other news outlets, but don’t watch local news television and don’t listen to local talk radio and don’t read local newspapers, keep up? I guess I need to take more interest in the things going on closer to home in order to find out about these changes.
Its an interesting conundrum because I feel quite plugged in, but when I find out about these kinds of things I realize that I am not plugged in to the news sources that might actually affect me.
