BBC News – US Postal Service facing 28000 job losses.

I’m pretty sure this is going to instigate and propagate further decreases in the use of postal mail.  If we can be sure that mail will take longer to arrive, why then would we choose to use that method over electronic payment?  Especially if we are environmentally conscious?

Motivation

I spent about 3 years getting out of debt. During that time I listened to podcasts by Dave Ramsey on a regular basis in order to help keep me motivated. It worked. He provides many little nuggets of insight and self improvement that extend far beyond how to manage your money. How to hire motivated people. How to market your business. How to keep your marriage together. How to raise your children. It seems money touches on all these things because you put your money where your heart is. It was great. That ended in 2006 and I haven’t really plugged into many motivational/self-improvement sources since then. Ever since then I have been busy implementing all the things I learned. Well now – I feel as though I am at a crossroads and it is time to re-learn all the things that propelled me during that time before. Only this time – I hope to journal about the things that are affecting me so if someone is looking for a similar motivation – they can, at the very least, start with the places I am visiting.

Yesterday I visited Priscilla McPheeter’s Mary Kay website and plugged into her Podcast. I listened to a truly inspirational Podcast from one of her director’s, Eileen Huffman. I recommend that everyone listen to it. You will laugh. You will cry. It will remind you to find purpose in every single day, and that if you know there are things that you can do better – you will strive to do those things better. Also, great testimony about how God can work in your life. Awesome. Listen to this. Do it.

BBC News – Apple denies claims that Siri is anti-abortion.

I think it is STUPID to blame Siri (Apple) for not finding ANY THING.  Coffee shops.  Abortion clinics.  Mosques.  Churches.  Hospitals.  It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t find it – take responsibility for looking at a map or having your BRAIN plugged in moron.

I don’t blame Google when it doesn’t have the latest Subway shop on it’s map.

Idiots.

Monetize

I feel apologetic about it – but that probably isn’t necessary. I have been blogging and adding content to the web since 2001 and had an email account since 1996. I haven’t advertised on many of my sites and especially never did so on one of my personal sites but unfortunately that has to change. I have extensive costs associated with running the sites and even though traffic is low – I will be more motivated to extend the content into the media realm with more fun stuff. If it proves completely useless and fruitless and more invasive that helpful – I’ll reconsider. But with two little kids growing up and the extra money needed for them rather than just hobbies, I think this move makes sense.

Also – this will be valuable in that I can experiment with the formula for creating content and generating revenue based on creativity and the options available on the web and hopefully better advise my clients on how this formula can be applied to their own websites.

Field of Dreams

Whenever I watch the movie, I feel like some parts of it are so far fetched. I mean, time travel, baseball players from heaven. And yet, I can’t help but think about how many great feelings and concepts are intertwined in it. Any time I have a chance to see it or listen to it – I get excited and let it wash over me. Cool stuff.

I can’t imagine being in Iowa, surrounded by corn and flat land, and feeling so moved, so compelled, so inspired to do something that appears so out of the ordinary. And at the same time, I sort of wish for such an inspiration. Interesting mix of emotions.

Okay, not necessarily places, but states. Thought it would be fun to have a map of all the states.

In Memoriam: Mars Rover Spirit – National Geographic News Watch.

No regrets here.  We wish it couldn’t lasted forever, but alas – it came to an end.  It was a good run.  Definitely.
