Crayfish, Crawfish, Crawdads …

I have no idea what the things are called, but they are little lobsters basically. And I have learned how to eat them …delicious.

I was spoiled this weekend at a party where there was about 150 lbs of them. Seasoned to perfection and there was even a cool eating platform where you could easily pitch the shells into the trash in the center …AND there was beer on tap about 5 feet from the eating station.

Heavenly.

  1. Bryan says:

I think crayfish is the accepted term, though in the Deep South, no one would know them.

    “You ever eat crayfish?”
    “Whassat?”
“You know, the little freshwater lobster creatures.”
    “Ya mean like crawdads?”

Or the same conversation with someone from Nawlins. I picture the assistant coach from Waterboy.

    “You ever eat crayfish?”
    “Hmm flmm wha hmm? Hehehehe.”
    “What?”
    “Mum flm wa ha hmm.”
    “What?”
    “Crawdads.”
    “Oh. (scratches head) Okay.”

I’ve also heard them called Mudbugs.

You are right, good stuff. I bought a bag of frozen ones up here. My wife and I were both sick afterwards. I guess I will just to have until I go down to Florida next time to get some.
