People Can Be Sweet

But some people are stupid.

The guy who I see buying lottery tickets every morning at the grocery store across the street, the scratch-offs. It is false-hope. This can’t be the only path to prosperity. Stupid. Maybe ignorant.

The lady who smokes cigarettes standing between two propane tank storage units that have NO SMOKING plastered all over them. Hey you! Out of the gene pool! Stupid.

The driver that yells at me for coming into an intersection when I got there first (thereby following all proper traffic safety laws) and they didn’t even stop. Not smart.

Customers, clients and potential sales people who don’t reply to my emails. Stupid. Or just busy. If you are just too busy – I get it. I’m busy too.

truck driver who decides he’s about to miss his exit and slams on his breaks on a road with a 55mph speed limit and numerous cars behind him almost causing a major pile-up (with me and my wife as participants) – STUPID.

I used to try to differentiate others’ stupidity, to make it more palatable to me. I once believed that if someone did something stupid, but did so innocently it was okay. Then, I had to add the caveat that if they did something stupid and caused death/pain and suffering, however innocently, it was, of course, bad. And needless to say, those that do something stupid and are cognizant are idiots. But, as time goes on, I had to also add caveats for ulterior motives such as greed, envy, jealousy, etc. to the innocently stupid category and it became just too much work on my part to rationalize someone else’s stupidity. It is much easier to just give them the finger and get on with my day.
